Build What We Started. Honor 160 Years. Give Before December 31.

One hundred sixty years ago, newly freed men and women built Freedmen’s Town—brick by brick and dream by dream—creating Houston’s first free Black community and a lasting symbol of resilience, ingenuity, and hope.

Today, the Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy (HFTC) continues that sacred work by preserving the historic brick streets, restoring remaining homes, and delivering cultural and educational programs that ensure this legacy is never erased.

Our End-of-Year Goal

We are calling on 350 supporters to give $160—one dollar for every year of Freedmen’s Town’s legacy—to reach our $50,000 goal and sustain preservation, education, and community empowerment into the new year.

Give & Be Entered to Win

All donations made before December 31 are entered to win two complimentary tickets (valued at $1,275 each) to our inaugural Freedmen’s Town Heritage Gala in February 2026—an evening of culture, elegance, and powerful storytelling.

Earn entries with every gift:

  • $16 = 1 entry
  • $160 = 10 bonus entries
  • $1,600 = 20 bonus entries

(No purchase necessary; free entry method available.)

Your Gift Supports

  • Preservation of historic homes and original brick streets
  • Education through tours, workshops, and youth heritage programs
  • Arts & culture, including Porch Talks, festivals, and exhibitions

This is your moment to give back to a place built on courage—and built for all of us.
