This is what RESILIENCY looks like!

Friends,

Freedmen's Town is a rare jewel remaining in the City of Houston, with an incredible story to tell. That story can't be told if places, people, and memories have been erased or displaced. As a show of strength and resiliency, Freedmen's Town is taking action by building a Community Garden and a Resiliency Hub!

The main goals with the Freedmen’s Town Community Garden would be to support local food sources, educate the community, and promote sustainable practices. All the while growing relationships within the community so that going to The Community Garden becomes as intuitive as going to Walmart. The first phase of the garden will be planted at the Freedmen's Town Labyrinth on the historic Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church site.

The proposed Resiliency Hub would be a self-help center that grows in size and scope as the community needs it to. Beginning as a community toolshed, emergency supplies storage, and a resource for the entire neighborhood, the Hub puts resiliency in the hands of the people. The hub can provide food, water, Wi-Fi, charging stations, building materials and serve as a cooling/warming center in emergencies.

This is your opportunity to support the community directly.

Your donation to these community impact projects will fund the initial construction and sustained operation of the Community Garden, Resiliency Hub, and much more!

Onward and upward,

Zion Escobar
