Join us for a Black History Month Writing Workout with Dr. Shiarnice Burton on Saturday, February 21 from 10 AM - 12 PM at the Freedmen's Town Visitor Center!
This two-hour senior memoir workshop offers a reflective journey through a century of Black history commemorations. Participants will connect major historical milestones with their own lived experiences through guided conversation, storytelling, and writing activities. The session centers memory and wisdom, guiding participants on an exploration of how Black history has been remembered across generations and how those memories continue to shape identity, community, and legacy. Participants are encouraged to bring vintage family photographs, historic news clippings, or quotes from prominent African American musicians, leaders, or baseball players to spark discussion and reflection.
