How do Public Artworks preserve, protect, and promote Black communities?
Join Houston Freedmen's Town Conservancy for a lively discussion on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 6-8 pm at the Visitor Center. Our conversation will be focused on "The Meditative Space: Barbara Jordan Monument," completed in August 2023 by Jamal Cyrus, and located outside the Gregory School. Houston-based artist Jamal Cyrus will share his inspiration for the artwork and Houston Sun Founder, Dorris Ellis-Robinson will provide insight into Barbara Jordan's life and legacy within Freedmen's Town. Ryan Dennis, Associate Curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, will moderate this enriching conversation.
Parking is available at 1300 Victor St, Houston, TX 77019.
