ABOUT
The Reverend Ray C. Mackey III is a Texas native, national faith leader, and non-profit
executive whose diverse career spans ministry, professional sports, and cultural advocacy.
Licensed and ordained to pastoral ministry in 2011, he is a Fellow of Harvard Divinity School's Religion and the Practice of Peace Colloquium. He currently serves as the Evangelism Pastor at Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and as the Executive Pastor of Higher Impact Ministries. A former NCAA and international basketball player, Reverend Mackey previously served as a corporate C-suite executive and as a front-office executive for the 1995 NBA Champion Houston Rockets before dedicating his career to community and faith-based leadership. Driven by a commitment to education, he founded the "Lifting through Literacy" initiative in collaboration with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation—an achievement that earned him an invitation to the White House under President Barack Obama. Reverend Mackey actively serves as the Chair of the Houston Symphony’s African American Leadership Council, a loyal advocate of Affordable Housing, and is a committee member for the Mayor’s Houston-Harris County Sports Authority. He preserves his family's heritage as the Board Chairman of the Biz Mackey Family Foundation and as the co-author of the national bestselling book, A Giant Behind the Plate. In this role, he serves as an ambassador for Negro Leagues Baseball, honoring the legacy of his great-uncle—the legendary catcher and National Baseball Hall of Famer James Raleigh "Biz" Mackey—while leading local to global literacy initiatives that introduce under-represented youth to the history and sport of baseball.
